A Bit about the "Nomads"
The "Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club", is possibly the oldest, and longest running beach fishing club in the South of England, and possibly the whole of England. (If anyone knows of any other beach fishing club that's been running longer, please let me know.)
It was originaly called the "Eastbourne Pier & Beach Club", this was founded in 1913. In 1914 the club had a break for 4 years, this was due to World War 1.
The club changed it's name to the "Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club" in October 1929.
In 1930 the club had 130 members. In 1940 the club had a break untill 1946, this was due to World War 2.
Today (2008) the club has 42 members, a bit different from when it first started. In 1929 "Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club" was the only beach fishing club in East Sussex. Today (2008) there are several clubs.
The "
Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club" has a sister club, this is called the "Eastbourne Angling Association"
(see link on the Home Page). The "Eastbourne Angling Association" is more of a boat fishing club, with regular competitions. They also have a Social Membership, and a very nice club house, complete with bar, darts, snooker table and pool table.
Every year the "Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club" holds it's Christmas Open Beach Competition. In 1970 the Competition had 208 entries. At present the prizes are all cash, back in the 1930's the prizes were things like; cigarettes, cigars, tights, spam etc.
As you can see, the "Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club" has been running successfully for a long time, and we hope to keep on running.
The "Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club" is a friendly beach fishing club. We welcome all anglers; Juniors, Ladies & Gents, complete novices, or experienced competition anglers.
